Why Not? 'Outta Control'

Its been almost a month since "Control" (HOF) by Big Sean dropped, which featured a controversial verse from KDot which shook the game & gave rise to real hip hop (also to a few rappers) again.. Many dudes jumped in on the instrumental & did their own mix cos either they took offence or wanted to kiss Kendric Lamar's *beep* - you know what.

Last night, South Coasts very own Why Not? (cash prize winner of IN_TYMs #RaiseTheBar), also decided to jump on it, not taking offence but rather offense & trust me hard shots were fired up in here, some are subliminal & some are straight up! "Uku-skeem(a) umnt' ontswempu akushukuthi naw' untswempu/ aniyeke ooMalume ba run(e) iGame banishiyele iStamp(u)/ & that goes to Da Manece, no Constellation/Infinity Rhymes, King K Bones, Gongqongqo/ Tidoz, Nitro, Maestro & the Mad Dog/ I got love for you kodwa iVaar ni wack majita" he spits. The idea behind the verse is not originally his but  clearly he's had this on lock for long on his chest, & this was a way & chance for venting - but was it a good move though?

So far there hasn't been a response yet (except for sulky web posts & groupie posts), but I'm very sure there is one coming for claiming to be King of South Coast Hip Hop (unless he's talking about the FB group - you know, there's internet kings these days & real life kings) & also the best kasi rapper or rep-er (representer)!

But this remix is straight up heat, everything is on point including the role he plays with KDot's flows, so we got WhyDot now *giggle*

"bahleze besaba ukusibiza kanti iVaar nali/ who's the best, Why Not, Raplika, Miyar & Nile/ Tizzy, King T, Flip, Lawry & the rest of yall/ wack are wack niggas, don't get involved" he spits! - so if you aint mentioned, grab pop corn & be In Control!

Zodiac

This here is an interview that took place between Propane and East London's rising star Zodiac:

*as I was trying to introduce myself, so she can be comfortable, she goes to say..*

Zodiac
:) oh by the way Propane I'm Zodiac, most people call me Zoe

*...i could tell she's really from EC, no shyness*

Propane
Haha, pleasure to meet you also :) you're an artist right.. I'd expect most people to call you Zodiac, or Zoe & Zodiac are the same person in real life & in music?

Zodiac
Lol I might have confused you a lil bit, sorry! My name is Olwethu, the stage name is Zodiac. People call me Zoe in short to Zodiac otherwise yeah Zodiac and Olwethu are both lot alike but sometimes I feel like Olwethu gets more influenced by Zodiac because she gets more involved in Olwethu's life so much that Zodiac just takes on so much both musically and in real life

Propane
Haha & honestly I thought Zoe was different from Zodiac.. Poor Olwethu getting no shine here cos she's no star like Zodiac lol. Can you please tell me then about the alter-ego Zodiac? who she is, from where & her role in music etc

Zodiac
Ohk uhm Zodiac aka Zoe lol..is from Eastern Cape in East London uhm she is a Vocalist mostly RnB music.. uhm Zodiac also has a background of some Hip hop music as well I had 2 years of being a rapper started performing and recording 2009 and as you see I'm still doing music.. uhm when I look at Zodiac I see a young talented girl who has a dream and a vision not only for herself but other young girls out there. I came to a point where I said I will never give up so I see her  breaking through the industry, also for young girls from the Eastern Cape who wanna succeed in whatever they put their minds to

Propane
Very interesting & inspiring also :) I take that your music is also along the same lines, or how'd you describe your sound?

Zodiac
Its exactly that! I'm a very diverse artist, my love for music allows me to take on other genres as well but still be Zodiac because what makes Zodiac the artist is who she is and how she wants to be seen.. So my sound is along the lines of being more inspiring, emotional sometimes and powerful. There's a lot of power that lives within my sound as well as you can tell that this person wants to be heard or listened to.. that was so distinctive that if you carefully listen you'd notice that I never overdo a lot of vocals within my music because I understand how to make good music but also pass the message

Propane
Great stuff.. & talking about being diverse, between 2009 & 2010, I heard a verse by you on a joint called Relay which had U-Diverse Ent members only! Were you ever associated with them, what's the story there?

Zodiac
Uhm yeah.. I was associated with U-Diverse Entertainment uhm that's were I started doing recordings and performances and at that time I was trying to find out who am I and why am I doing this.. but at that time I was really young so I kind of didn't know how long it was going to take me but whatever I could learn at U.Diverse Entertainment I was going to take it and use it

Propane
& its been quite a long time since 2009 when you started, you must have grown a lot... Any projects that you've worked on or are currently busy with?

Zodiac
Yes! I do have a project that I'm working on its an Album called "Hear Me Out" and its all about introducing Zodiac's music basically to say Hear her out

Propane
Wow an album, does this mean that you're signed or? & do tell who you worked with so far on its making :)

Zodiac
Well.. I'm not signed yet, I think I wanted to have material first then guide myself to getting signed afterwards otherwise the people I worked with are DJ Blackman, Luthoz from Dice Game Productions, Worx, King Sezo, Trusenz, Hasty, Gunzo, KayZet, Blaqphamas and Hopefully Berita

Propane
I see you got iLL City's finest there on your list.. I trust on that project! If you've been heart-broken, maybe you can do the Hip Hop version of Thandolwethu you check?! Haha

Zodiac
Lol!! Nooo come on!! You know Thandolwethu is such a beautiful song I think who ever would do another version of it besides the House Tune by Oskido has guts! And a chance of going to a downfall because that song has proven its place along with its singer - She sings it best

Propane
haha true.. Its done opened many doors for her! You too have any kinda relationship?

Zodiac
Uhm yeah.. she's a good person very humble as well. I've done some of my performances along side her it came to a point were we performed together at O.R Tambo Hall eZwelitsha and yeah she's a very friendly person even shared a few ideas about how to take on my music I still appreciate that coming from her

Propane
In her case, we can judge a book by its cover.. Anything else besides music that you do maybe? Work/Studies.. Dating maybe? Lol I know there's always "single" guys

Zodiac
Lol!! You'll never find me on the dating scene not anytime soon lol but I do Study at Boston College in East London, I do Media

Propane
Haha well that is more painful than rejection damn.. The "never find me on the dating part" part! Reasons for that?
Zodiac
Well its simple, music needs attention and focus and when its a dream and you so passionate about it, things like dating seem to be just a waste of time. So to those who are dating and still handling their business very well I give props to them they working hard

Propane
You bring more sense into it now, & these always work out in a way that pulls the other! & I don't mean to justify the girls with sugar daddies or guys got sugar mamma's haha. Thanks for you time & all that you've shared :)

Zodiac
No problem..:) thank you for having me here.

Propane
And where else can people find you or connect with you - twitter & facebook maybe?

Zodiac
Ohk my Twitter handle is @YakZodi and the facebook name is Olwethu Zoe Diyak

Gifted Lawry

This weeks artist feature really needs no introduction by now, since he landed, or rather made his presence known in the music scene, he has been on more lips than than lipstick since its creation cos of his genius & comedic puns and uncanny flow. Essy caught up with him to know more about the dude behind the name Lawry

Essy
How did the name Lawry come about?

Lawry
Well, it was actually "Gift Leremi" at first, the late Orlando Pirates winger. We shared a first name & so my soccer team mates thought it would be fitting. When he died, it felt awkward being called Leremi so they somehow cut it into Lawry & I guess it stuck.

Essy
A lot of people knew you as the crazy funny guy and were quite surprised when it was said that you're a rapper... How did you actually come out as a rapper?

Lawry
I, actually, always was. I just didn't have any people around me who were doing music at the time. The minute I got outta high school, I ran into a lot of producers & rappers in Durban & so I got back on that horse.

Essy
great stuff hey.. and is there any stable that's snatched you up already?

Lawry
4DaRecord but funny enough, I approached THEM, knowing damn well they don't just sign randoms. I guess I impressed them

Essy
lol yess, that they don't.. not to be biased or anything hihi.. So you basically are still fresh in the so-called "game".. Anything that you're currently working on right now?

Lawry
A little mixtape I guess. I'll put together about 10 tracks for you guys. I dunno yet.

Essy
Who do you want to work with when it comes to actually putting that tape together?

Lawry
I can't think of anyone in particular right now.

Essy
hehe speaking of artists.. Regarding the battle with Peace, you're quite the topic on everyone's lips, causing controversy.. #R.I.P and #Obituary, care to comment on that?

Lawry
#RIP pretty much covers it. First of all, it wasn't a diss (getting that out of the way), I was upset at how unfairly the battle went & I was just emphasising on that. Also, people don't read posts, but you put your thoughts on a track & BOOM! Controversy 101

Essy
lol and you caused umnyakazo for real hey.. What would be your reaction if Peace released a track responding to that?

Lawry
I don't wanna get ahead of myself here, but there's really no way of responding to that. It's that good. If he does, it won't be as good. That's why I'm so sure he won't. It's dead & gone.

Essy
lol rappers and their ego's haha.. anyways, now that w've heard about Lawry the rapper, could you tell us more about Gift Shozi and his background?

Lawry
Well, HE'S just nonsense. He's an I.T. Student in Durban who spends his days wishing he'd grow Lawry into a bigger star than he is. Lol Background? Let's see. He's a total cheese boy. Never lived a day eKasi. So it's pretty hard to target Kasi fans when you're using words like "titanium" or "Shakespear" or "Homework" lol

Essy
Lol lol! uzosusa omunye umsindo haha hhay.. before you have knives running after you, any s/o's you wana send to anyone?

Lawry
My team #4DaRecord. #TeamOk. Mag for recognising real & having us on the tape. Aaaaand My Parents I guess, for not knowing any of this. Thank you!

Essy
Lol no, thank you.. and good luck on upcoming projects and everything else

Lawry
:)

Well, while we wait for a project, masilinde ngengoma (let's wait in song)...

The Ambitious Peace

Following the last posts about the battle between Lawry and Peace and everything else that was the aftermath of that, i decided to hook up with Peace #NoHomo, the winner himself just get to know the guy behind the name and again #NoHomo.. Here's an interview with the dude

"Propane: Awe bra wam (Wassup hommie)

Peace: Ekse bathini? (Whats good?)

Propane: I'm all good.. So dude, out of nowhere we see you killing it on shows, hear you on radio, but can you tell me & the public who Peace is for those that don;t know yet?

Peace: Well Peace is a rapper born in Port Shepstone (Lamont-Mvutshini location)  at the South Coast of KZN. He started rapping in 2009 then went to studio on 2011. I am 16 years of age and currently doing Grade 11 at Mlonde High school at Mvutshini. I used to listen to people like MojaPooh, Shon G, ProKid, Zakwe and a lot of rappers from around, they got inspired since then.

Propane: Whoa, you're just 16.. If I'm doing my math right you started rapping at age 12?! Damn.. & looking from the list of people who inspire you, I can conclude that your sound is also similar to theirs, right?

Peace: Yeah kind of... But I always try ma best and make sure to not sound like them.

Propane: Awe, I hear you ma dude.. Here on the south coast, its always been tradition to belong under a certain stable, which one are you under?

Peace: I am under Umkhalambazoo UnderGround Records

Propane: Sho mata (shot mate).. & you seem to be killing ish & burying it underground there, haha since you won the battle against Lawry, a big s/o to that ma n***a! Weren't you nervous going into that battle, since he's more known & the funny guy?

Peace: To be honest dawg, I was so nervous and I never thought I would win that battle as Lawry was  known  and I was the new kid on the Block... But I tried and did ma best and the judges and some of the people were impressed.

Propane: I can imagine the pressure you were under.. But you proved that dynamites come in small packages! Unfortunately your opponent felt like he was cheated, he went on to release #Obituary & #R.I.P.. What was your reaction to that?

Peace: Well, I didn't even bother ma self with that. I don't care! He can release diss tracks or what what.. But I will just keep on doing what I do. I won't give him any attention

Propane: Kushota uthi (you just have to add) "aint nobody got time for that" haha.. Word! So I guess we won't be hearing a response from you with a track maybe?

Peace: Lol naah I won't..

Propane: wololo.. Walamba obezishaya nge beef lol. Working on any project/mix tape at the moment?

Peace: Yeah dude, am currently working on ma E.P titled THE AMBITION, which is going to Drop soon.

Propane: Dope.. Who you working with on it,  any special features to expect there?

Peace: Actually its ready now, next month (September) it will drop and it features the likes of S-dee, Pman, King-T, WhyNot?, Birdie(vocalist), and Young D...

Propane: & I see I was left out of those features there.. Nam I'll make a track for you lol. Kidding man.. Before I wrap this up, any s/o you wanna pass out?

Peace: Well I just wanna send a s/o to ma n***as at Umkhalambazoo U.R, M.E and last but not least M.A.G media in making ma E.P successful.....there's still more coming!

Propane: Am sure nabo baya #Phakamisa where they at.. Thanks for you time bra wam, & all the best in your music & school yo

Peace: moja dawg"
Surely I'm not the only one anticipating this E.P by the young'n, while we wait as it loads, get the single from it below...

#RestInPeace

So it seems like Lawry - the Space Music Genius - just couldn't bring himself down to the overall outcome of his battle against Peace on the 17th Of August. The guy feels like he was unfairly defeated cause of the sound problems, judges & his opponent bit lines. Aha, you can call a guy you "dog" while he actually bites for real, mhmm...

South Coast Hip Hop group was buzzing with posts about this song on the day of its release, some were for and some were against it saying it was a wrong thing to do - but this is Hip Hop, when is speaking your mind on a joint ever the wrong thing to do?

But before #Obituary, actually shows the "rephrased lines" by Peace, and one might argue and say for a battle you'll do anything to win, and another will come and say for a prepared battle you can never get a win like that - mean while Peace is well, keeping his Peace (if not dead *dramatic music plays*). Anyway, check out the audio files below and be the judge

We Connected - The Succes Couldn't Be Contested

As you know, on the 17th of August the IN_TYM hosted another event which was a follow up from #RaiseTheBar, this was a continuation of the project which aims to expose the talents of our youth. #WeConnect hosted B5 Fam at Top Deck in Port Shepstone.

The show did not not only have our local artists line-up but it also featured battles. YES, battles (i know you crying if you missed it) - KuSs was up against Mad-Dog and Peace was up against Lawry. Like the modern day battles these were prepared battles with cash bets. KuSs was easily victorious on his battles with Mad-Dog scooping a 2-1 win, Peace also took a win over Lawry (so dynamites come in small packages for real huh?).

Images and footage from the show will be posted in a lil later - keep it locked here, don't miss out!
