NduMicLion

First and foremost we as the IN-TYM team would like to wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR!! We hope 2014 is productive and a year of success for us all.

Now down to business.  We begin this year with the man who entered 2014 on a very high note, by winning Rep Ur Lokshin, beating difference rappers from various locations around KwaZulu-Natal.  Essy had a chance to find out what this guy is all about and this is how it went down:

Essy
Nduuuh

NduMicLion
Essy

Essy
How are you?

NduMicLion
I’m great, thanks for asking, what about yourself?

Essy
I'm great myself hey... So for those who don’t know you, awuzshaye nge intro for em

NduMicLion
Well, I am Ndumiso PraiseWorth Gasa. Born and raised in Durban, Inanda and Umlazi. Originated in the South Coast, Harding, Kwa-Machi, Evelela.  Started rapping at the age of 13, but started hustling in music at the age of 15. Also known by my stage name NduMicLion or MeningSon the GeniusIdiot. I’m under Drop Down Entertainment alongside ma team mates MoveMentBeats, Presswords and Specifybeats, an IT graduate (ehleka kancane), son of Mening and Jacobina Gasa.

Essy
Hahaha yho umlando omngaka... And how did the name NduMicLion come about vele?

NduMicLion
Lol, I was just telling you who I am. Well the name NduMicLion came about pretty simply. I used to call myself Ndu when I rap, and there is a line I did way back which was "when Ndu Touches the Mic he becomes a Lion" meaning when I get on stage I become a Wild "Cat", coz ngyahlanya estage. Then rappers I used to rap with at the time, said I must use this line and create ma name on it, and that’s how it came to be. And I also like the name because it consists of ma real name, Ndu, meaning when I get on stage or when I rap, there is the part of me, on that "rapper", because mostly I rap about me, jeah

Essy
Oryyt, I see hey... Speaking of performing on stages... Congrats man on winning iRep Your Lokshin and repping 039! How does that even feel for you?

NduMicLion
Well to be honest, what makes me happy is that I took it for the South Coast. Not for me, not for Drop Down, but for The South, because we have talent in our hands but the problem is we not 100 percent confident. To me, winning Rep Ur Lokshin was just a Bonus, ma Motives where to get on stage and gain a fan Base I never had

Essy
And that, you achieved... Kodwa ke haters are always gonna hate haha! How do u feel about the people saying uwine ngochatho and whatnot?

NduMicLion
Jah neh, I saw some critics, and some on social networks , but all I can say is, kubo bonke abantu who were at the show know why I won and if 1 person disputes that, its fine, I can’t change how they feel, but I can ignore them and continue with what I do best

Essy
Spoken like a true "Genius". So what songs did you perform lapha?

NduMicLion
Mhhm, thanks. First track I performed was titled "Talk Too Much" produced by Master Dee, lapho I was up Against Grilla, young rapper which I respect.  Then after that I was against Biro where I performed a track titled "I Am Mad" produced by MoveMentBeats. Then I was against a Rapper called C-Flow, where I performed Yessess, also Produced by Master Dee. Then I was against Phindise, where we had a tie on votes so we were forced to have a second Round, I performed a track titled "ang'neliseki" alongside Bricka and Mc Crack, produced by Suspect and a track called "army" produced by KaliBeats Then I was on the final with Mthinay Tsunami, where I won with a track titled "March To The Future" produced by a South Coast beat Maker/ rapper, Proada, jah and that’s how I won it, it was a tough 1 , but I was determined to fight till ma last breath

Essy
Bajulukile abantu hey, that's a whole lotta fighting! Now, going back to basics... Who/what inspires you in terms of your music and all of that?

NduMicLion
Lol, mhhm, well a lot of artists inspire whenever I hear something different, I follow and try to adapt to the style using what I got. But if I had to name a rapper that inspires me to write and who I look up to, it has to Be Ab-Soul from Black hippy T.D.E. Other than that, many cats in the industry, international and local, commercial and underground do inspire me, because I am a fan of good Music

Essy
And you mentioned Drop Down Entertainment earlier on, do tell us more about it hey

NduMicLion
Drop Down Entertainment is a production started by myself and SpecifyBeats, Rudber and Presswords, in 2011. Since then we've been soldiers on a mission. It wasn’t easy but we managed to get people to know that we exist and we not backing down anytime soon, and under Drop Down Enter, there are 2 movements, which are MovementBeats which is beat makers i:e SpecifyBeats and Presswords, and R4EYE which stands for Rhymes For Improvement, by myself and Solo Sabza

Essy
So that makes you the co-founder of it, oh wow hey... Definitely gonna be on the look-out for them. So before we wrap this up, any specific shout-outs you want to send to anyone?

NduMicLion
I just want to thank all those who were supporting me and by my side at the Rep Ur Lokshin Finals, and shout out to M.O.T.D.S.O.M, ImageNation, and to ma parents kwaMachi and ma sisters and broz, especially Sindi Ncane, the 1 who supports me, she’s ma second mom, and ma Izee broz, Ong Dogz, Fresh and Professor Cn3 A.K.A Thabani, ngyabonga

Essy
Haha cute, man... And on social networks, utholakala kanjan?

NduMicLion
Uhm, you can get me on FB, its Meningson GeniusIdiot Gasa, and you can search Drop Down
Entertainment and like the page, and follow the fam on Twitter, its @NduMicLion, @DropDownEnter , @MoveMentBeats for bookings and features , you can contact DropDownEntertainment@gmail.com or contact me on 0847340858

Essy
And are there any projects that you're currently busy with?

NduMicLion
Jeah, of cos, I’m gonna appear on features around KZN cats nje, and be on the lookout for ma
MixTape titled "Heart of a Lion”, coming between June and July, and jeah that’s Drop Down for you

Essy
Haha only the best... Thank you for your time dear and once again, sithi HALALA!

NduMicLion
Thanx a lot Miss Daka

Yung KG

We were blessed with a chance to chat with one of the hardest working upcoming talented young man in South Africa and this how it went down.

Q: This is sort'a gonna be like those mxit questions of "intro please" hehe but you know the drill ma dude - for those that (still) don't know who you are, can you let em’ know?

Yung KG: Well there's so many ways to define who Yung KG is but I prefer to be known as that ambitious Xhosa rapper from the Eastern Cape, born in Ntabankulu in the late 80's I usually don't mention my other names like Philile Yanga Kagiso Koto reason being I want people to know Yung KG as a brand & not to focus on my birth names & stuff.

Q: Word mayne, in fact I was still gonna ask why the name Yung KG but it all makes better sense now, I'm not thinking KG as in kilo haha. When you say 'brand', I believe your hustle goes beyond the music?

Yung KG: Yes It goes beyond the music in a sense that Yung KG must not be just that guy who raps in xhosa but It must be a name that will stick in people's minds & whenever they hear my song they will go like oh yeah it that guy KG the Eastern cape representer that's why I extended my hustle into branding clothes so I came up with T-shirts written Tabankulu my Home town and Transkei my Motherland I promise you with those two things mentioned as mine or my work forgetting my name is not an easy thing

Q: No doubt about that - & you have made a move to Johannesburg, being someone who's from EC I understand that move, but you still stayed indie. Do you prefer working that way?

Yung KG: Well its every body's dream as artist to go to J-sec but when you get there come to realise that things are different you need money to do certain things like features making quality music & so forth but other that I worked as Yung KG to gain fan base as Yung KG not because I featured one or two of the well-established cats in that way I had the whole lot of chance to switch into many things like dropping vocals myself when there's no one to do a hook for me or kill. International beats with a mix of Xhosa & English just to showcase my versatility as an artist

Q: Aye... Right now you're in Durban, you got a single on the airwaves, uphezu kwantoni kanti - is there a project you working on/promoting?

Yung KG: Ok right now I am Durban I came here to finish off some songs with Masta Vi whose a producer from EC basically I am finishing of my 1st Tape ever to drop that's gonna have probably 10 to 12 songs in it hoping to drop it before the end of November for promo reasons I just dropped a song titled “Tat'uMandela” I believe it’s a hit track but the plan was to show how honourable the guy is an obviously for me as an artist to have written a song about such Icon is an hounor

Q: It’s good to see artists such as you honouring the greats of this country, in fact the world -besides the fact the guy is DOA (just jokes).. On this tape, besides Masta Vi, who else can the people expect on this project?

Yung KG: Well Gamabeats who’s the main guy he produced most of my hit tracks such as Story of my life - Back to my roots & the one I just shot a music video for titled “Thina syay'xutha” feat. Yang M and Silem prince they both from Kokstad & right now I am pushing my newest joint titled “Iphupho lami” produced by Goddabeatz from uMzimkhulu & he's the one on the hook

Q: Awe dope... The video will be hitting our screens soon I hope?

Yung KG: Oh yes it’s now on its mastering course & in the meantime I have been trying to make connects with TV stations who are willing to screen it when it’s out here is an audio version of the joint “Thina syay'xutha” http://kasimp3.co.za/85082 & for masses who wanna hear more of my work then can just google Yung KG Koto & check my Facebook account all the links are laid out on my artist profile God bless.

Q: I'm sure you have Bay TV already waiting to screen that already since you handled that interview with them a few weeks ago. Thanks for your time though man, all the best for the future

Yung KG: Hell yeah Bay TV is waiting for it hahaha & thanks a lot for your time too dawg & keep giving such opportunities to young cats mane, it helps

Q: No doubt my dude - we're all about pushing up-coming talent

Beatsfeelpain

Earlier this week, I took some time to chat to quite an ambitious and passionate Mr. Lwazi AnglerTom a.k.a Beatsfeelpain and oh my, did he a quite a bit to say.

Essy:
Hey heeey... SoOo could u tell us more about who you are

Beatsfeelpain:
Okay, aside from the obvious which is that I am an artist/ musician I am born again, I am originally from Mthatha and I am currently living here. I run a business of my own called Eqongeni advertising solutions I go by the name BeatsFeelPain right now... I must be honest I change my names frequently enough, I probably have the Diddy syndrome lol feel free as well to direct me to the kinds of answers or information that you looking for

Essy:
Lol wow, you sure don't hold back hey... So basically your stage name is BeatsFeelPain and the real one is..?

Beatsfeelpain:
Real name is Lwazi Tom. Beatsfeelpain is a South African recording artist, producer and business entrepreneur who started his rapping career in 2003 and became popular for making songs that were always profound and discussed the most challenging concepts that elude many. Beatsfeelpain formerly known as Iznut used to write about things that did not specifically bring glory to God but after a strong conviction that led to him giving his life to Christ he now writes songs of worship only. Beatsfeelpain has reached a few notable milestones while working with two brothers that he met in the faith and became friends with. Beatsfeelpain and his friends known as Vocal Tactic and Sir-J started a crew called sanctified flow which was christened this name by their youth pastor Kurt Hutton (Senior Ps Robert Jerkins). They released a EP titled SANCTIFIED produced by a few household names in the faith like PRO CHRIST, SIYA THE 13th Disciple and vocal Tactic, this brought a healthy amount of attention their way leading to huge airplay on stations like Link FM and UCR FM, Tru FM and ultimately Mhlobo Wenene FM. Sanctifiedflow interviewed and performed at all these radio stations. Sanctifiedflow made its first debut appearance on the national hip hop magazine called HYPE Lwazi Tom Studied internal auditing at Walter Sisulu University and worked briefly in the telecommunications sector as a customer service representative and as a Team Leader at virgin media under AEGIS BPO holdings in Sandton scripture, pray, and eat together as we keep each other strong in finding meaning and purpose; and staying out of the troubles of teen pressures such as substance abuse, chasing the opposite sex before Johannesburg. He now owns his small business.

Essy:
Oh wow, that is interesting hey and quite motivating.. So where is Sanctified Flow today?

Beatsfeelpain:
Sanctifiedflow pretty much formulates every time we as the brothers meet up again, but as can be cited above , because we are in different cities it is hard to do anything consistent and sustainable. We all work now. Grown men

Essy:
haha I hear you hey... so what would u say was the reason you changed from the songs you used to write in the beginning to worship songs?

Beatsfeelpain:
Well to be honest when I think of everything that God has saved me from and what he has done for me I just cannot write about anything else either than that and the amazing compassion that he has shown me and not just me but the world and so I write with the hope that someone out there will catch on to this love and run with it because truly it’s amazing it’s also a thing about a true sense of purpose. Importantly there is a lot more to music than just the surface which is for the sake of enjoyment. It’s a lot deeper than that.

Essy:
uplifting stuff hey… And about your business, what's that all about?

Beatsfeelpain:
@ell I do a number of things... I work closely with a local radio station here and I do adverts for them, different kinds, client ads and station jingles. I am also quite an extra ordinary artist (praise God) and so I do some graphic related work like designing logos, posters etc. I also on occasion do a bit of photography but strictly in corporate functions

Essy:
haha wooow, I shoulda juss asked what don't you do hey... u really seem to be gifted with everything nhe... and where else can people get a hold of you?

Beatsfeelpain:
There is my artist page Beatsfeelpain where they can make contact with me or otherwise my facebook page Lwazi Angler Tom

Essy:
No twitter handle maybe?

Beatsfeelpain:
I do have one just not big on it @angler_BFP is my handle

Essy:
Thank you for sharing a bit more about yourself and your business ventures with us hey

Beatsfeelpain: Absolutely you most welcome... it has been a great pleasure talking to you

Armada Beat Tape

It's a known factor that a lot of rappers, more especially those starting out, just can't get those good beats cos of well, producers are very picky as to who they give their [best] work to! Its safe to say not all producers have the same work etiquette

Producer Silas (Adrian Silas) has once again dropped another free beat tape following his 7 Day Beat Tape, & this is a very very early Christmas Gift for artists! Silas is well known in some parts of the country, & has worked with some dope artists such as PDotO, Morale & J-Lawless to mention a few.

The latest offering from him is Amada Beat Tape, which contains 10 hot beats which are alternate from bangers, some beautiful cinematic strings & progress to mid-tempo tunes. It officially dropped 30 September, and whether you’re wack or dope you are more than welcome to jump on these as they are all for free. I'd suggest you don't waste the good hand he has put in.

Be sure to also download Enemies by the controversial mother city rapper Dingo

HOLD IT DOWN FOR THE COAST

First and foremost SHOUT OUT TO EVERYONE WHO ATTENDED 21/09/2013! Now close your eyes & imagine a song, ok never mind closing eyes cos you won't be able to read this but - one song consisting of almost every recognizable (operable) stable from the South Coast represented by a select number of its members, where every rapper holds he's bars down for South Coast, united to make an 039 anthem... Stop imagining, IT IS HERE!!!

Hold It Down For The Coast is an IN_TYM joint that aimed to unify South Coast artists, while showcasing to different area codes how they hold it down for their own - it feature's Lawry, King Tidoz, KuSs, Why Not, Flip, SK, FAB, Talente, RiverNile, Propane, Pro P & Killa Identity! Originally the song was made for the #RaiseTheBar event & is supposed to feature 16 cats but some couldn't make it (couldn't raise the bar maybe - we don't know), & so it ended up with 12 cats - & they dozen it, I mean doing it!

Download the joint for free here: Hold It down For The Coast
